Let’s talk about the lowly air filter. The thing that helps remove the particulate from the air that might otherwise lead to premature wear. There’s plenty of options out there for air filters from stock style paper elements to the washable oiled fabric type like the K&N. It’s come to that moment where the paper element has filtered out it’s share of dirt and is time to move on to something a bit more fitting for the way the 1965 Buick Riviera is going.
I found that there is an element that fits this slightly odd sized air cleaner assembly and I’m going to top it off with a Xtreme lid in place of the solid 445 Wildcat lid. Don’t worry, the Wildcat lid will stay around for those times that the car heads to shows and other events where performance isn’t the main goal. The purpose of the Xtreme lid is to get more air flow into the carburetor, the factory air cleaner assembly would be best described as breathing through a straw. Getting the air in helps it make more power and is more responsive for those times where this beautiful car is on the road or autocross course.
K&N also has cold air assemblies for your newer daily driver, UTV, ATV or SXS. If you need to filter air, they’ve got a solution for you! K&N is definitely worth the cost, as you never need to replace it, and they are shown to improve horsepower output in the right application. As a value conscious buyer myself, there are plenty of reasons to want to move towards the K&N.
As a fun side note, the WOT 4 BBL sound that we all remember and love is definitely able to be heard better with this new set up!
