The Snow Family Racing Garage has been going through a major change. I’m currently in the works of moving my family from Utah to Missouri. That comes with its host of challenges like prioritizing what happens first. That typically means that the house and family come first. This is no exception, although there is an advantage to this! As the house comes together, it’s allowed my brief moments to reflect on what my wants and needs are in a garage. This means I’ve taken time to think about the kinds of things I really want to see when I start putting the garage together.

Right off the bat, there’s some things that need to be addressed. The garage itself is a 30X30 metal building with enough vertical height for a lift. The downside is that the floor is currently a dirt floor. Dirt floors are, well, dirty and the dust tends to coat everything. The shop does have some electrical run to it, the downside is that the electrical was pieced together with left over parts and has all of 30 amps run to an old Fuse block, not even circuit breakers. For this to be more useful to me, I want more amperage to be able to run my welder, compressor and other electrical needs. Another thing that needs to be addressed is the lighting. There is one flood light in the garage and it’s enough to get by if it’s being used for storage, for what I want to do, it will need good lighting.

This is going to be a balancing act to get the El Camino ready for the next race season, and get the garage pulled together. Here’s the plan, I know that there are used electrical sub panels for sale locally. I’ll get one of those and as many of the bits and pieces as possible used to help keep the costs down. I know that wire is expensive, I’m going to do the best I can to look for remnants from electrical contractors and other construction sources. I want to do this right and try to keep the costs as low as is sensible. There are some things that I know I’ll buy new, like the lighting and the main power wire from the main panel to the sub panel

Stay tuned and There will be updates to the garage coming soon!
