This tool has absolutely saved me money to apply to my project cars! Yes, I bought a tool that’s practically a professional tool that you can get on a hobbyist budget and do very professional work. Here’s what happened most recently. I’m road tripping and doing some house hunting and the check engine light popped on. Luckily, there were no drivability issues. I got back to the RV Park, grabbed my scanner thinking that this could be anything from something simple to something more involved. After letting the AutoVIN do it’s thing, and doing a system health check, I was rewarded with a simple P0101 code, basically the MAF value is out of range. The top fix was to change the air filter. I’ve been driving down a lot of dirt roads, so it made sense that the air filter was plugged in hindsight! I took the filter out and knocked the dust out until I could get a new one the next morning. Clear the code and it’s gone! I realize an air filter is a cheap thing, however, the real benefit has come that I didn’t need to spend the time to go find a local shop to get it looked at. That’s no less than their hourly shop rate and the mark up on the part.
I also used this Artidiag to diagnose the 4WD encoder motor. I was able to see what was losing connection and replace the part. The encoder is not a cheap part and still pays at least an hour to change the part plus the Diag and hourly labor cost.
