We all know that racing and building cars can be expensive, and there seem like more ways to spend money than there are ways to save it. You’ve seen the professional racers get sponsor deals, and wondered if you can get in on that action. The good news is that you can! Everything they do can be done to attract sponsors for our amateur or sportsman level racing too. It all comes down to some simple principles that we can all apply. My journey started with a book and I know this same book can help you on your road to sponsorship.

So reasons you may want a sponsor is to offset the cost or racing, to grow your impact or even get paid to race. It’s also okay if you want to keep it as a hobby and don’t feel the need to invest in this way. It’s totally fine whichever way you want to go, I want to help you make an informed decision on this!
There is one place that sponsorship starts and it starts with you and your personal brand. Are you the kind of person that a sponsor would want to work with? Are you in it for the right reasons or are you in it just for the “free stuff”? Think about the kind of person that you would want to work with and work from there.
There several types of sponsors, the Affiliate, the parts or tools and the cash sponsor. They all have their place and can all work to help you get to where you want to be. They all take work and can all lead you to some really cool places.
The basic building block of sponsorship all comes down to one simple characteristic. Relationships. Do you have a relationship with a brand that you already trust and do you have a relationship with an audience that can trust you? That’s where it all begins. Then you want to think about what you have to offer the sponsor. How can you benefit the sponsor and help them get to where they want to be?
