Winterizing your classic doesn’t need to be hard, and is something that you can easily handle in an hour or two without any issue. Those that live in cold or snowy areas know that putting the fun cars away for winter helps preserve them from the harsh salty and slippery roads. We’ve poured our heart and soul into these cars, we want to make sure that they’ll be around for a long time! So, here are some simple steps to get your classic or specialty car ready for its hibernation.

First is taking care of the battery. I know I don’t like replacing the battery before it has had several years of service. I recommend adding a battery shut off switch to help ensure that your battery stays charged for as long as possible and helps protect against parasitic drains. For some racing sanctioning bodies, having a kill switch installed is mandatory if the battery has been moved from its original location. I would also suggest putting a float charger on the battery so that it’s ready to go when you want it to be. Need a float charger? Next is verifying the cooling system is safe. Using an antifreeze tester is a quick and easy way to ensure you hurt your car due to the expansion of freezing. It also lets you look at things and make sure that the condition of your coolant is good and doesn’t need changing. Need an antifreeze tester? Try this one on Amazon!

Lastly is ensuring the fuel system will be in good health. I like to use non-ethanol gasoline so that I have fewer issues with the rubber components in my fuel system and the aluminum in the carburetor. I also recommend adding some StaBil to the fuel to help keep it better through the long winter slumber. Need some StaBil? Try here!
